What’s on a cover?

I was messaging with a bisexual man the other day who had purchased a few of my books in paperback format. Something he said to me made me think about how I design the covers for my various stories and books.

He told me that he liked the idea of being able to read the books while sitting by a pool and no one would know that he was reading adult erotica. They are provocative enough to give you and idea of the subject matter, but reserved enough to blurt out to the world what you are reading.

A lot of though goes into the image and image placement when creating a cover and I have never been a fan of the ones that just blurt out nudity to grasp an audience. But showing some skin, is not a bad idea at times.
